In 1987, Lee A. Doerr, Jr. purchased SPI Lighting from Cooper Industries. It was then as it is now recognized for its innovations in indirect lighting. A third-generation entrepreneur, Doerr was drawn to the factory because it reminded him of the three electric motor companies his family had founded, starting with his grandfather in 1920.
The company grew rapidly in the years that followed, expanding twice to accommodate expansions in office personnel and manufacturing capacity.
In 1999, Advent Lighting was purchased, bolstering our capabilities in design and manufacturing of architectural decorative pendants.
Throughout the journey, we remained in-step with technological advancements, reinventing our products from metal halide, to fluorescent, to LED lampings.
Today, we remain a forerunner in the nation's commercial lighting industry. Our range of products includes everything from aesthetic and powerful architectural designs, to full-scale performance and asymmetric systems that give off impressive amounts of light, to contemporary lighting solutions which include linear runs and discrete pendants. Our products are distributed throughout the United States and Canada.
The company is well-known for our custom capabilities through our YD Lighting division. This dedicated team of designers and engineers applies its decades in the business to help solve the most unique lighting challenges. The team also modifies our current product offering's aesthetic and/or performance capabilities to meet the demands of your unique project needs.
While much has changed during our history, we remain committed to the same principles we started with: service, performance, and innovation.
SPI Lighting remains one of the few independently owned lighting manufacturers left in the United States. All products are proudly designed and built in America at our factory located 15 minutes north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Watch this video and meet a few of the people who make our luminaires.
